Terms of Service

1. Who we are
The BUE Service Desk (the “Service”) is operated by The British University in Egypt (“BUE”, “we”, “us”), El Sherouk City, Cairo, Egypt. References to “you” mean any person who registers for or uses the Service, including staff, students, contractors and authorised third parties.
2. Acceptance of these terms
By creating an account, ticking the acceptance box at registration, or otherwise accessing the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service together with our Privacy Notice, Acceptable Use Policy, Cookies Policy and Service Level Agreement (collectively, the “Policies”). If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.
3. Eligibility & accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old, or a registered BUE student or employee.
- You must provide accurate, current information and keep it up to date.
- You are responsible for all activity carried out under your account.
- You must keep your credentials confidential and notify us promptly of any suspected unauthorised use.
4. Use of the Service
The Service is provided for the legitimate operational purposes of BUE — including raising, tracking and resolving service requests across IT, Estates, Finance, HR and other departments. You must use the Service only in accordance with our Acceptable Use Policy and applicable law.
5. Service availability
We aim to make the Service available 24/7, subject to scheduled maintenance and events outside our reasonable control. Specific response and resolution targets are set out in our Service Level Agreement. The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis to the maximum extent permitted by law.
6. Intellectual property
All content, software, trademarks and the “BUE” name and logo are owned by or licensed to BUE and are protected under Egyptian Law No. 82 of 2002 on the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights and applicable international treaties. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service for its intended purpose.
7. User content
You retain ownership of content you submit (e.g. ticket descriptions, attachments). You grant BUE a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce and process that content solely to operate, secure and improve the Service. You must not submit content that is unlawful, infringing, defamatory, or that contains malware or excessive sensitive personal data.
8. Liability
Nothing in these Terms limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under Egyptian Civil Code (Law No. 131 of 1948) or — where applicable — the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 and Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977. Subject to that, BUE is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, loss of profit, loss of data, or losses arising from misuse of the Service by you or third parties.
9. Suspension & termination
We may suspend or terminate your access immediately if you breach these Terms, misuse the Service, or where required by law or regulatory authority. You may stop using the Service at any time; the closure of your BUE account will result in the deactivation of your Service Desk access.
10. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the Service or by email. Continued use after the effective date of the changes constitutes acceptance.
11. Governing law & jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Arab Republic of Egypt. The courts of Cairo have exclusive jurisdiction, without prejudice to any mandatory protections you may have under the law of your habitual residence (including, for UK-based users, rights under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
