Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
Effective date: 11/05/2026
This AUP applies to anyone using the BUE Service Desk. It supplements and is to be read together with the BUE IT Acceptable Use Policy and the Student / Staff Codes of Conduct.
1. You must
- Use the Service only for legitimate university purposes.
- Provide accurate information when raising tickets and approvals.
- Respect the confidentiality of information you encounter through the Service.
- Comply with all applicable laws of the Arab Republic of Egypt and, where relevant, the United Kingdom.
- Report security concerns or suspected breaches without delay.
2. You must not
- Submit content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, harassing, discriminatory or that incites violence.
- Infringe intellectual property or confidentiality rights of any person.
- Upload malware, attempt to bypass security, or perform unauthorised testing.
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your role.
- Use the Service to send unsolicited bulk communications (spam).
- Submit special-category personal data (health, religion, biometrics, sexual life, political views) unless strictly required and through approved channels.
- Use automated tools to scrape, overload or disrupt the Service.
3. Egyptian legal framework
Conduct is also governed by, among others, Law No. 175 of 2018 on Anti-Cyber and Information Technology Crimes and Law No. 151 of 2020 on Personal Data Protection. Misuse may constitute a criminal offence in Egypt and may be reported to the competent authorities.
4. Consequences of breach
- Immediate suspension or termination of access.
- Internal disciplinary action under BUE staff or student procedures.
- Civil or criminal action where appropriate.
5. Reporting misuse
Suspected violations should be reported to servicedesk@bue.edu.egor, for security incidents, to the IT Security team.
